A God-fearing widow in severe financial crisis came to Elisha the prophet pleading for help. “A creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves! I have nothing in my house except one (measly) jar of oil!” Elisha instructed her to gather every jar they could find and borrow. Then go inside their house, start pouring the oil they had, and keep pouring and keep filling until every container was filled. She did what she was told until there was not a single vessel to be found then the oil stopped. She had enough oil to pay off her debt and for her and her children to live off the rest. (2 Kings 4:1-7)
The name Elisha is significant here. The Hebrew meaning is “God is Salvation”. It is derived from the name, Eliyshua, “God is Salvation” and “my God is wealth”.
There is wisdom and favor in godly counsel when we seek Him in our desperate time of need. You find that God is indeed Salvation, but more personally, you will find that He is your God who is wealth. And greater still He does not have wealth, He is wealth.
Widow, take your needs to Him and do what He tells you to do. He is your wealth. He is your Salvation!
